within the human heart is the highest potential of praise to God or the blackest depth of sin’s degradation. Which shall it be? That is the work of choice, will, determination. All too often, we have chosen to do wrong and are in the bondage of sin (Rom. 7:24), but in every case it is due to our own decision without coercion by God.

1 Corinthians 10:13, “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.” You can do what you have to do to be pleasing to God. He will help you. Your brethren will do the same.

Satan is a master at charging his opponents with what he himself is doing. When he first introduces error, it is often on an optional basis but it soon becomes enforced as a human creed which must be accepted or at least tolerated. While Satan is stirring up strife, unjustly accusing men of evil intentions, and establishing a new human creed, he charges all who oppose him with doing those very things.

Mission work can take one to strange, exciting, and dangerous places. It can bring him into contact with literally all kinds of people (such stories would fill a book). There are a variety of methods one might use. One might go as a planter or a waterer. He may go as a planter and, with time, do the work of a waterer. Let us all resolve to think of ourselves as ministers of God and, as such, serve him as preachers and teachers of his word.

It is the responsibility of parents to “put the yoke” upon their children (Ephesians 6:4). Parents must insist upon conformity to good rules in the home. They must see that they bear the “yoke” of attending Bible study, being in worship, and attending gospel meetings. Children who do not learn to bear the yoke in their youth bring sorrow and shame to their lives in their maturing years. Yes, “It is good for a man to bear the yoke in his youth.”

This series of lessons has been an effort to help all of us examine our beliefs, teachings and practice on the subject of unity and fellowship. It was also presented to set forth the truth that we are able to understand and conform to the revealed word of Christ. Every false teaching, left unattended, endangers the souls of men by seeking to turn them away from God’s truth and grace (cf. error on divorce and remarriage, fellowship and unity – Gal. 2:4-5; 1:6-9; Jno. 1:17; 14:6).

Are we living for God as we ought? Do we appreciate what God has said about these moral issues that come up from day to day? Yes, the Bible is a relevant book, and yes, God’s word has meaning for us today. Woe to anyone who thinks otherwise! Regardless of how “foolish” men think it is, it is our responsibility to preach and promote God’s word to a lost and dying world.

Many are the teachings which have convinced man that he has finished the race to heaven. When these arise at judgment, they will find they had never crossed the finish line. Others will find they had been running on the wrong track. If you think the marathon runner was disappointed when he realized he didn’t receive the temporal crown how about those who find they have lost the eternal crown?

This issue of Watchman Magazine is brought to you with the intent of encouraging all who read to turn in trust to the word of God, foolishness indeed to people of this world, but the wisdom of God to those who seek Heaven. It is our desire, as that of David’s, to be “a companion of all those who fear You, and of those who keep Your precepts” (Ps. 119:63).

Nakedness is not defined by our culture; God has placed limits there. Examine the scriptures and be convinced of what he expects. We should monitor our wardrobe to see that we are walking in the light as he is in the light (1 John 1:7) and not in the shadow of the temple to worldliness. No matter how appealing to our eye, and no matter how great our desire to be admired, we must resist an immodest display of the flesh.

Doctrinal and moral purity is demanded of every Christian, and we should expect nothing less than such purity when we are talking about the local church. We cannot judge the hearts of men, but we have no choice but to judge the fruits of their lives. Just as 2 John 9-11 condemns the false teacher and any reception of that false one, the verse does not expect us to judge his motives. We could never do that anyway. We must judge the message he brings.
