Hindered Prayers
Our communication with God is not to be as one-sided as some of the phone conversations that we have; we are to speak to God in prayer and to listen to him as he speaks through the Bible, often answering there the very questions and needs we have raised. “One who turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is an abomination” (Proverbs 28:9). We should not wonder why there is so much static on the line if we are content to speak to God in needful prayer, but apathetic about listening for answers by reading his word (see Psalm 1:1-6).

The Simple Gospel: What to be in 2005
It’s that time of year again, when millions make New Year’s resolutions — with many breaking them within the first week of the New Year. Resolutions are not bad. Making goals is a helpful way to achieve the improvements we wish to make in our lives. They need to be realistic and possible.
Praying
Prayer, offered confidently by a saint, can accomplish wonders. “Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much” (James 5:16). As we engage in worship to the Almighty God in heaven, may we all “pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:16), petitioning God in faith.
In the Steps of the Savior: Giving Thanks
Let us determine to live our lives as the one who returned in thanksgiving to glorify God for the blessings received. By so doing, we can provide an example of thankfulness which can teach those around us and ultimately our nation just as that Samaritan did so long ago. Our lives should manifest a thankful spirit, not only at Thanksgiving, but every day we live by the grace of God.
