Your Signet, Cord and Staff

We are fighting a daily battle against sexual temptation and every day the devil ratchets up the steam. The misery inflicted upon people who only wanted a few moments of experimentation and ecstasy lasts forever. Stay out of the foothills of temptation and choose better company with better habits. Flee sexual immorality and youthful lusts.

In Reference to Modest Dress, Are We Binding The Old Testament?

All Christians should consider the nature of biblical teaching. While it is true that we are not subject to the Old Testament as law to govern our lives today, there is much that we can learn from its pages. It indeed was “written for our learning” (Romans 15:4). When we look to the Old Testament to help us to better understand God’s definitions and the requirements he has given us in this covenant, we are not “binding the Old Law” but rather we are “rightly dividing the word of truth” ( 2 Timothy 2:15).

Distinguishing Private from Public Sin

What’s the difference between being wayward and being a false teacher? The beer drinker is sinning for sure, but he sins without directly involving another person in his sin. It’s possible he may even admit that he’s sinning and should quit. The false teacher, on the other hand, defends the drinker in his sin and causes other Christians to drink or to approve of drinking (Romans 1:32).

Technology and the Church

Technological advancements are wonderful. Never before have we been so capable of taking the gospel into the whole world at such little expense (Matthew 28:18-20). A single congregation can do today what seemingly required church-splitting unscriptural arrangements a short time ago. Yet, the potential for abuse is also so apparent.

A Table of Brotherhood

Christians fill the world upon every continent, speaking every language and representing every culture, dialect and color; we sit at a table of brotherhood when we partake of the Lord’s Supper and it is past time that we put away our fleshly prejudices so that we can flourish spiritually.

The Ultimate Basis of Christian Fellowship

The ultimate basis of Christian fellowship is our standing with God. If we stand with Him, then by extension we stand with one another. “But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin” (1 John 1:7). When one who claims to be one of His children persists in sin, we who are spiritual have a responsibility to judge him. He no longer is walking in the light, and he is to be marked and avoided as one unworthy of our fellowship.

Mingling With the Gentiles

The lesson we must learn today involves both the power of false gods and the influence that takes place between us and those around us, either for good or evil. We are commissioned for conversion rather than extermination, but the same dangers exist in that we may mingle with the lost in such a way that we receive more negative influence than we ever give positively.

The Great Danger of Worldliness

Worldliness poses a great threat to the child of God. There as been an alarming trend in recent years as many in the Lord’s church have shown greater acceptance of worldliness and sin. Many seek to justify their sin with argument, yet they are only arguing against God’s divine word. There are no “loop-holes” in the book of God! The Pharisees sought a “loop-hole” and were condemned for it

Advice to Preachers: Write!

Be absolutely sure that what you write is true to God’s word. Never publish material for consumption that represents shoddy scholarship or speculation. Remember the admonition of James, “My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment” (3:1). Approach your audience as if they are as the noble Bereans, and will search “the Scriptures daily to find out whether” your words agree with God’s (cf. Acts 17:11).

The Purpose, Regulation, and Duration of Miraculous Manifestations of the Holy Spirit.

The purpose of this study will be to consider that view in the light of divine scripture; the “sword of the [Holy] Spirit” (Ephesians 6:17). In addition, this study does not in any way deny the Holy Spirit’s divinity nor His power. He is God (1 Corinthians 2:10-11). He does have the power to work miracles (Acts 2). Thus this study is designed to consider His method of operation as it is laid out in the Bible, and as it pertains to followers of Christ.

Video Script: What Must We Believe? (8)

Just about everyone accepts that faith saves, but an important question often remains unasked. What, or who is it I must believe in? Now the simple answer is, you must believe in Jesus. John stated in his gospel, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (3:16).

It takes a commitment of Biblical proportions to be pleasing to God. But those who make it secure for themselves a crown of righteousness, “which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to [us] on that Day” (2 Timothy 4:8).
