Is Jesus Really the Son of God?
The Christian’s belief that Jesus is the Son of God is not based upon feelings, traditions, or cultural beliefs. It is based upon evidence that is recorded in the Word of God.
The Indwelling of the Holy Spirit
No one should deny that the Spirit dwells in the Christian. The Bible teaches that the Spirit dwells in us through our faith and acceptance of His word. The Spirit can be said to dwell within us as we manifest the Spirit’s influence upon our lives. The fact that we dwell in the Godhead, and that the Godhead dwells in us, shows the closeness of the fellowship that we have with the Godhead. However, I believe we are in error to take the position that the Holy Spirit literally dwells within us. The Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit all dwell in us through our faith, and operate upon our lives through the word of God.
In the Steps of the Savior: The Person of Christ
While on earth, Jesus claimed to be of the one divine nature the Old Testament revealed. After Jesus declared to the Jews that Abraham looked forward to His coming, the Jews asked how He could act as if He knew Abraham though He was not yet 50 years old. Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM” (John 8:58). The claim was an unmistakable identification with the I AM (God) of the Old Testament (cf. Exodus 3:14).
Solid Food: Ye Are Gods (John 10:34)
“I and the Father are one ” is equivalent to saying “I am the Son of God” (v 30, 36). This was a clear declaration of deity by Jesus and the Jews took it as such (v. 33). Only in a representative sense have men ever been called “gods.” However, one has lived among us who was more than just man. Jesus was God in the flesh (John 1:14; Col. 2:9). His works confirm it. His words attest to it. He has power to save and to protect your soul. Do you believe it? Are you his sheep?
