God has given us light and all the blessings that accompany it. This light has been introduced in our world at different times. Physical light came at the creation. Spiritual light came with Jesus Christ. This “light of life” came to us personally as we came to believe and obey the gospel.

Have you made yourself ready for the new heavens and the new earth? Make this truly not just a new year, but a new eternity!

A very excellent fact to know is that all of the cases of conversion are very conveniently found in the Book of Acts. Added to this is the fact that all of these cases of conversion mention baptism. The prevailing denominational views of course minimize or eliminate the need for actual baptism over variations of grace only salvation.

Whether it is described as coming to the light or faith, a man must respond to God’s gift of grace. God sent His Son to die for all men, but not all are saved. It is required that we love the light. We must believe in Jesus Christ. As He said, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6). “You Must Be Born Again”

If we are going to take it upon ourselves to convert those in places far from other Christians, we ought to also consider how we are going to “service” such converts.

Let us all remember as we go forth to teach others the gospel that many religions are preaching their own teaching on salvation in Christ. Stories of conversion, like that of the Ethiopian Eunuch, help us to show the lost the way of salvation in truth.

We are to preach because the gospel is the sole means of converting men! We may become friends with them, but that will not convert them to Christ. They may be members of our family, but that lineage has nothing to do with their salvation. Conversion only comes in response to the word of God. Paul understood this, and wrote, “…I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek” (Romans 1:16). The only power we have to save men is in the gospel of Christ.

All we need is preaching coupled with good and faithful hearts. The combination is unbeatable. It is the only scriptural combination that works. Shall we follow the example of this foreigner’s conversion and learn to put things in their proper place? May God bless you as you “study to show your self approved unto God” (2 Timothy 2:15).

Study your Bible. Study the Scriptures inspired of God. {They are one and the same}. Believe the truth contained in God’s word. Obey it. Change your life to conform to His will. In Matthew 18:3 Jesus said, “…Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.”

Upon a thorough study of the example of the Philippian Jailor’s conversion, three conclusions must be drawn. One, that faith only is not taught in this passage. Two, teaching the word of the Lord includes baptism. And three, baptism should be done without delay.

Today, as it was with Lydia so long ago, the gospel is “the power of God to salvation” (Romans 1:16). Only when people hear it can their hearts be opened to faith and obedience (cf. Romans 10:17; 6:17).

In his obedience to the gospel the Ethiopian Eunuch had cast His burden of sin on Jesus, and had found rest for his soul (Matthew 11:28-29). And because he was no longer a prisoner of sin and death. In his obedience to the law of the Spirit of life in Christ he had been set free from the law of sin and death, and he was no longer a condemned man (Romans 8:1-2).

Every case of conversion you study in the book of Acts will reveal this same pattern. We must follow it today if we are going to be saved from our sins. The promise of God is sure – “Everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Do you know who the Lord is on whom you must call for salvation? Do you know what you need to be saved from and what He is willing to save you from? And finally, after our study of this chapter in Acts, do you know what to do to call on the name of the Lord?
