God’s Pattern for Benevolence
Does God have a pattern for carrying out His commands to care for the needy? Yes, indeed He does, and let us never forget what happens to those who ignore or reject His pattern and go about doing things in their own way. It will always bring the wrath of God upon them.
God’s Pattern for Evangelism
May we get back to respecting and observing God’s order or pattern in all things. If you are a preacher, does your support come to you direct from a contributing church? Or does it come from a church that has been used to collect funds from other churches and then send those funds on to you? Are you worshiping with a church that is involved in such a sponsoring church arrangement? If so, that church is not following the divine pattern. Think about it.
A Pattern
I am sure that Nadab and Abihu thought that fire is fire, and that it should not make any difference where they got it. But, in thinking and acting so, it cost them their lives. The lesson for us is this: We must follow the Lord exactly as He directs, whether we understand it or not, if we are to be pleasing to Him.
The Eldership in the Lord’s Church
Far better to have a church “unorganized scripturally” without elders that to have one that is “unscripturally organized” with men serving as elders who do not meet the things laid down by the Holy Spirit. My dear reader, I only ask that you study this short article on a subject that needs close study.
Remembering Sister Lela: The Follow-up
Bobby Holmes gives a report regarding the memory of Lela McCarter.
Breaking Neo-Calvinism
Listed are a series of suggestions to use in refuting Neo-Calvinistic error
No Law
Neo Calvinists believe that under the new covenant, man is not constrained by law.
Assurance – Security
Neo-Calvinists erroneously believe that some sins do not separate man from God
Doctrine-Gospel Distinction
Neo-Calvinists make an unscriptural distinction between gospel and doctrine
Righteousness Imputed
Neo-Calvinists teach error regarding Imputed Righteousness
Justification – Sanctification Difference
Neo-Calvinists make an unwarranted distinction between the concepts of justification and sanctification
Introduction: A Study in Neo-Calvinism
John Calvin made one wrong assumption, and it totally corrupted and destroyed everything he ever thought or wrote from then on. His decision that God controlled everything crept into his beliefs about salvation, redemption, etc. Look carefully at the TULIP and you will see his erroneous ideas about sovereignty behind every point.
Preaching in the Pacific Northwest – Report 2 (1998, 1999, 2001)
In less than a month I will have preached the Glorious Gospel of our Lord for fifty years. My only regret is that I don’t have another fifty to give. I know there is much work to be done yet in the Pacific Northwest as well as other places and I want to encourage men to rise to meet the challenge. Indeed, “the fields are white indeed unto harvest and the laborers are few”.
Preaching in the Pacific Northwest: Report 1 (1997)
On January 3rd, 1997, JoAnn (my wife) and I left our home in Duncanville Texas and spent eleven months on an extended preaching trip, at least half of it in the states of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Wisconsin and the province of Alberta Canada. The rest of the time was spent in my holding meetings in Ohio, Mississippi, W. Virginia and the south Texas area.
Rebuttal to Jesse Jenkins’ Response
Brethren and friends, it is “nonsense” and a play on words to refuse to acknowledge and name one as being a false teacher who teaches false doctrine with a good heart. One might ask, “What difference does it make as long as the false doctrine is exposed?” The “sting” is taken out of the identity of one who is marked as such. It is a “softening” toward the one who needs to be noted and avoided! One is made to wonder why one would insist the character must be flawed before he can be labeled as a false teacher!
Remembering Sister Lela
A tribute given in memory of Lela McCarter, a faithful Christian woman, and member of the church in Sturgis, Mississippi.
Guarding the Guardian
An “umbrella” of protection is being used today to protect those who are false teachers. Some, like Ed Harrell are advocating the acceptance of the “man” in fellowship while rejecting his doctrine. He stated he did not agree with brother Hailey’s position on MDR but could continue to fellowship him as a faithful servant of God. He is not alone in this. This is despite the plain teaching of John in 2 John 9-11, as quoted above. John states clearly if the man does not bring the “doctrine” of Christ to you, do not receive him into your house and if you do, you become a partaker of his evil deed. Can it be any clearer than that?
God’s Grace VS Man’s Grace
Yes, we are saved by Grace (unmerited favor of God) when we obey the Gospel (“Good News”) of God’s plan of salvation for man. Note again our beginning passage, Ephesians 2:8-9, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” Now, let us look at the very example of these Ephesians being saved by God’s grace. “And it happened, while Apollos was at Corinth, that Paul, having passed through the upper regions, came to Ephesus. And finding some disciples he said to them, ‘Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?’ So they said to him, ‘We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit.’ And he said to them, ‘Into what then were you baptized?’ So they said, ‘Into John’s baptism.’ Then Paul said, ‘John indeed baptized with a baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe on Him who would come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.’ When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.” (Acts 19:1-5).
If man wishes to be saved by the Grace of God, he must be saved the same way the Ephesians were saved! Don’t be fooled by a perverted kind of “grace” that is not Grace at all! Are you willing to be saved by the Grace of God? If so, you must obey the conditions of that Grace.
